HUD Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Section 8 Housing

Dear AHMA-NCH Member,

On August 22, 1974, President Gerald R. Ford signed into law the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, establishing the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program and providing direct payments from HUD and public housing agencies to private landlords. The Act also bans housing discrimination and established the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. In honor of this milestone event in subsidized housing, the Multifamily West Region within the Office of Housing at the Department of Housing Urban Development will be celebrating the many experiences of owners, management agents, residents, and program administrators with and under the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.

In preparation for the event, we are collecting videos from our stakeholders (i.e. owners, agents, residents, contract administrators) on what Section 8 means to them and why it is so important to preserve existing project-based Section 8 rental assistance for all at our properties across the United States. We will compile the submitted videos and share with senior leadership at HUD to renew our commitment to preserving, protecting, and promoting the Section 8 program.

If you are interested in submitting a video on behalf of your organization, a resident, or partner, please note the following:

Video Deadline: The deadline to submit videos is Friday, August 2, 2024.

Video Length/Duration: Please keep video under 3 minutes so we can feature as many videos as possible at the event.
